Rihanna Set to Make Animation Debut Movie in ‘Happy Smekday!’ in 2014

Rihanna is set to make her debut in an animated movie by joining the voice cast ensemble of “Happy Smekday!”. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Riri has signed on as one of the lead voices of the film, which is developed at DreamWorks Animation.

The Bajan songstress will be joined by “The Big Bang Theory” star Jim Parsons. As for the director, “Over the Hedge” helmer Tim Johnson has been tapped to tackle the duty. Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember, meanwhile, team up to provide the script.
Based on Adam Rex’s acclaimed children’s book “The True Meaning of Smekday”, “Happy Smekday!” follows a friendly alien race who uses the Earth as a hideout from their mortal enemy. As a lowly alien accidentally notifies the enemies of his whereabouts, he is forced to go on the run with a teenage girl. They embark on a journey across a post-apocalyptic America to learn what it means to be human.

DreamWorks plans to release the upcoming animation in the U.S. in the fourth quarter of 2014.
Rihanna was last seen starring in “Battleship” opposite Liam Neeson and Taylor Kitsch. She will appear as herself in Katy Perry’s concert documentary “Katy Perry: Part of Me” and Seth Rogen’s comedy “The End of the World”.
As for Parsons, the Emmy winner has previously done several voiceworks for TV shows, including on “iCarly” and “Family Guy”.
