American Idol finale airing live on M-Net . Kree Harrison OR Candice Glover

M-Net has announced that they will be screening the 12th American Idol finale live on Friday morning at 02:00 that will see either Candice Glover or Kree Harrison take the coveted title.

The two-part finale of American Idol season 12 will be broadcast live on M-Net (DStv channel 101) at 02:00 on Thursday, 16 May, followed by the final results show on Friday morning at 02:00.

Candice and Kree are hoping to join the ranks of former Idol winners that include Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and last year's winner Phillip Phillips.

Following the elimination of Angie Miller last week, 23-year-old Candice and Kree, who turns 23 on the day of the final results show on Friday, are the two women left standing.

The two are battling it out to be the first woman to be named American Idol since Jordin Sparks in season 6.

When asked what winning American Idol would mean to them, the Top 2 replied: "It would mean the absolute world," said Candice. "I definitely feel like, no matter what, I've come so far. Everything I've worked for will have paid off."

Said Kree: "It would mean so much because it would mean the sooner I'd get to make my record! More than anything, I would feel accomplished, knowing that I could make music."

The two-hour finale will also feature Call Me Maybe singer Carly Rae Jepsen performing her new song, Take a Picture, a collaborative effort between American Idol fans and the singer herself.

The live broadcasts will be re-aired during the usual delayed broadcast timeslot on M-Net: Saturday, 18 May at 18:00 for the performances and Sunday, 19 May at 16:55 the final results show will be rebroadcast.

Randy Jackson Leaving 'American Idol'

Randy Jackson, the sole holdout from the original cast of judges on American Idol, is leaving the show after this season comes to a close. "To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season," Jackson told Us Weekly yesterday. "I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It's been a life changing opportunity, but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures."

Mariah Carey quitting American Idol?

Mariah Carey is ready to quit American Idol.!!

The 43-year-old singer is reportedly so sick of working with Nicki Minaj, 30, that she wants to quit the show so she doesn't have to deal with her any more.

A source told Fox News: "Mariah doesn't want to come back. Nicki is really disrespecting her, and she's tired of trying to bite her tongue all the time.

"One night Nicki tried to be kind of nice, but Mariah didn't bite, so I guess she figured 'screw that.'

"She's done with it all. She doesn't need the platform, and all the drama isn't healthy for her."

Not critical enough

"She's also under fire with the producers for not being critical enough of the contestants."

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler - who was a judge on American Idol for two seasons - recently urged Mariah and Nicki to be professional and focus on the contestants.

He said: "You just have to give your opinion. It wasn't hard for me, but I would imagine it's hard for some people, and they need a manager to say 'Shut the fuck up, and just give them your opinion'.

"I know that they've got something going on on the judges' panel, [and] it shouldn't be that, it should be just the opposite: They should have something going on, which is called 'camaraderie'.

"They should have something going on so thick and beautiful that they can lay it over the new talent that's trying to birth itself. It needs to be birthed, not judged by 'entertainment' factors, it needs to be judged by people that [are] honest, true, that have the 'it' factor. Not the 'it' factor because they can fight. The fuck is that all about?"

American Idol ratings hit an all time low

When American Idol producers added Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj to the judges panel they expected a jump in ratings. The complete opposite has happened...

Last Wednesday American Idol pulled in 13.1 million viewers, it's lowest Wednesday night rating since the singing competition show debuted back in 2002.

This marks the third week in a row that the ratings have gone down. American Idol season 12 premiered January 16, 2013 with 17.8 million viewers. Last year's season finale aired May 23, 2012 with 21.49 million viewers

News/ American Idol Wants Sean "Diddy" Combs

Could Sean Combs be the new Steven Tyler?
As further proof that American Idol is looking to shake things up, sources confirm that producers have reached out to Sean "Diddy" Combs to gauge interest in a judging spot for the new season. Fox has no comment.
So what are the chances Diddy will sign on?
Nick Jonas is also being considered to take a judging spot on Idol by the way!
According to multiple sources close to the show, Diddy is currently considered a "long shot ." We're told the superstar rapper (who collaborated with Mariah Carey for her hit "Honey" back in 1997) hasn't expressed much interest thus far—not to mention, Fox might not be able to pay him what he's worth, after ponying up a reported $17 million for Mariah. (Not to mention, a reported $15 million for Britney Spears over on X Factor.)
Insiders tell us Idol producers have reached out to a surprising number of potential judges: "Something like 20," according to once source. As previously reported, some of those names include Adam Lambert, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Brad Paisley, Pink and Nick Jonas. Idol has put out a lot of feelers to come up with the right judging mix.
It is still not known if original Idol cast member Randy Jackson will return for the new season, and if so, in what capacity (judge or mentor).
"What you've got to realize is you've got to create a panel that gels," producer Nigel Lythgoe tells us." A panel that makes sense together. It's not just about three individuals."
