'We don't have a television industry in Nigeri'a' - Funmi Iyanda

Funmi Iyanda who is arguably one of the best TV personality judging by her persona, charisma, poise and intelligence says there's no television industry in Nigeria. In an interview with Encomium magazine at her Children's Day Celebration party organized by her "Change a Life Foundation", she spoke about her current engagements...

"I run two media companies. One in Lagos, the second in London. I don't do television in Nigeria again because we don't have a television industry and I don't want to do patronage media otherwise known as brown envelope media. That's why I have shifted that to London and me and my partners are working on films that can be seen by anybody anywhere in the world. Back in Nigeria, I do corporate projects. I have people on the ground and we choose what we work on. So I run my business as a professional. I run Change-A-Life as a founder because it has a board and staff that keep things going. I am glad that it has taken a life beyond me" she said.

She also shed light on how and why she ventured into film making since her background is not in films

"I don't need to know anything about film-making but I am a great manager of people and a very intelligent person. One of the challenges here is that we put people in boxes. So often times, they put me in boxes. What you saw me doing on NTA was what I could do, because I was censored into the format that I did on NTA. That's not the kind of journalist I could be. I was operating at 20% capacity. I don't want to die without operating at 100% capacity. So this is me moving towards my full capacity. I said I run the company, I didn't say I make the films. I have with me scriptwriters, directors. What I love about film-making is that you coordinate and organize talents so that you bring forth what's good. One of the things I do in London is to produce stories that showcase Nigerian cultures" she said

“I’ve Never Done any Presenting in my Whole Life” - Toolz on her Rise to the Top

We all know or have heard Toolz the bootilicious OAP that anchor the show "the Midday Show"on   +The Beat99.9 FM .. She shares with us on instagram about her rise to the top in the entertainment industry .. Read below

I'm not one for long epistles on Instagram, but sometimes I think about my journey and I am still truly baffled. God is so incredibly awesome!  

5 years ago, I moved back to Lagos, not knowing what to expect, but willing to work very hard. The plan wasn't to go into entertainment/media...the plan was to manage properties, but God had a different plan. 

I remember being so insecure when I did my voice-test and not really thinking I was any
good. Then I got a call back offering me a position - My own show. I remember thinking - these people are having a laugh, I've never done any presenting in my whole life. Then my show on the Beat got popular, and bigger and greater things followed.  

I'm eternally grateful to everyone involved in this journey. It's not always easy, sometimes being in the public eye makes you want to stay in bed and sob all day, but by His grace I keep on keeping on. I get so emotional when people send me emails, saying I inspire them. I never ever thought it would be like this.  

 I've come a long way and I'm proud of where I am today...I also know God has only just started!

Chimanda Adichie wins US National Book Critics Circle Award

Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie yesterday March 13th won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction for her third novel about race and identity, Americanah.

The prize, which is chosen by 600 book critics and editors from major publications, is among the most prestigious literary recognitions in the world.

The award was presented to her yesterday at a function in Manhattan, USA. Congrats to her. Meanwhile the book was also shortlisted for the Bailey's Women Fiction Prize.

Chimamanda Adichie asked to be addressed as a Ms and not a Mrs .

Unmmm thi is actually a tricky one . Although the speculations that prolific writer Chimamanda Adichie have separated from her US-based husband, Dr. Ivara Esega , she confirms in an interview is actually false . The talks emanated because she insited on being referred to as a Ms instead of a Mrs .
In an interview with Sun Newspaper on Saturday March 1, Ms Adichie told the interviewer who addressed her as Mrs Chimamanda Adichie, to simply call her Chimamanda Adichie.

“Before we start (the interview), please, I just want to say that my name is Chimamanda Adichie. That’s how I want it; that’s how I’m addressed, and it is not Mrs but Miss. Ms: that’s how I want it. I am saying this, because I just got a mail from my manager this morning. It seems that there are people who attended the church service, and they wrote about it, addressing me as Mrs. Chimamanda (Esega). I didn’t like that at all. So my name is Chimamanda Adichie, full stop!”
