Barack and Michelle Obama Strike Podcasting Deal With Spotify

Spotify Technology SA struck a deal for the entertainment-production company started by Barack and Michelle Obama to develop and produce podcasts that will be available only on the streaming service.

The former president and first lady, whose company is called Higher Ground, are expected to participate in at least some of the podcasts covering a range of topics, the companies said Thursday. That could potentially mean hosting, narrating or interview roles. Financial terms of the multiyear agreement weren’t disclosed, nor were details about programming or how many podcasts the deal might include.

The partnership comes after Spotify, already the second-largest podcast platform, behind Apple Inc., recently acquired a trio of podcasting companies for around $400 million—part of a plan to spend as much as $500 million altogether on such deals this year.

“We are thrilled that not only will the Obamas be producing content, but that they will be lending their voices to this effort,” said Spotify content chief Dawn Ostroff.

Mr. and Mrs. Obama established Higher Ground Productions last year when signing a multiyear deal to produce shows and documentaries for Netflix Inc.

Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk Split After 4 Years Together

Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk have split after four years of dating, PEOPLE confirms. Cooper, 44, and Shayk, 33, have officially decided to end their relationship and are amicably working out how to share custody of their daughter Lea De Seine, who they welcomed in March 2017, an insider tells PEOPLE.
The Oscar-nominated actor and the supermodel began dating in the spring of 2015.
The pair have kept their relationship private, with Shayk telling Glamour UKin February 2019 she preferred to keep their romance out of the spotlight.

“I have a lot of friends who share a lot of their personal life on Instagram or social media, very publicly. I admire it and I think it’s great – but I think it’s all about personal choice,” she said.

“Because my work requires me to be out there, I just decided my personal life will be quiet. That’s why it’s called personal, because it’s something for you and your family, and I feel happy with it.”
However, a source told PEOPLE at the time that raising their child is more important than getting married.

Stop confusing Nigerians. It is not possible to honor MKO Abiola in one breathe and and then admire his tormentor in another breath - Soyinka

Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka today told President Buhari that honroing late Chief MKO Abiola and praising his ''tormentor in chief'' was quite confusing.

Prof. Soyinka spoke at the Presidential Villa during the conferment of posthumous award of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on the presumed winner of the June 12 presidential election, the Late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

Though the Nobel Laureate did not mention any name, his words pointed to the late dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha who President Buhari had praised in recent times. Speaking at the event, Soyinka said

“I would like to make a request Mr President that you stop creating confusion in the minds of Nigerians. Stop confusing Nigerians.  It is not possible to honor MKO Abiola in one breathe and and then admire his tormentor in another breath. Loyalty is all very well but that loyalty can become perverse if that loyalty is retained to an individual who if he were alive today, would be before the international court of crimes against humanity, one who broke the laws of Nigeria, committed crimes humanity. It is confusing if professional loyalty is carried so far.

We had a private conversation sometime ago and remember that one of the things I mentioned to you was this, You are fighting corruption, how come it that a notorious corrupt ruler is honored by one of the most important avenues in the FCT. The answer you gave to me was not too satisfactory but I let it pass. Today perhaps is also a day for us to inaugurate our hall of shame to future generations'' he said

Goodluck Jonathan urges all Nigerians to assist the FG fight against terrorism

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is soliciting with all Nigerians to support the Federal government in this fight against terrorism. Jonathan stated this via his twitter handle while condoling with families of the victims of Boko Haram attack in Adamawa state on Thursday June 17th.
Suspected Boko Haram members stormed a funeral service in Kuda village, Adamawa state, opened fire at the mourners , killing 20 other them who were mostly women.
Isn't this madness under the cloak of a religious war, or some cause? What exactly are they fight for, am sure they don't even know.

You will be surprise what a Convicted Murderer will do for a Can Coke and Pizza

35-year-old convicted murderer Stuart Horner finally ended his Strangeways roof protest after more than 60 hours of negotiation. Horner first scaled the prison on Sunday at around 2pm, climbing a fence in an exercise yard and later onto the roof.
In the early hours of Monday morning, he began tearing up the prison - smashing windows and and destroying the ground below.
The murderer was in a tense stand-off with riot officers on Tuesday. Two officers with shields were seen making their way up a ladder in the roof space close to where the prisoner was holding his protest.
As they made their way onto the roof Horner was seen walking towards them with a metal rod in each hand.
He tried to attack them, saying: “It is my roof not theirs.”
The police advanced him after he had continued to cause damage to the building kicking off CCTV cameras and smashing windows.

A 'party protest' began outside on Monday evening, as crowds gathered to show their support for the convicted killer.

Horner was arrested and handcuffed as he descended from the roof, with his arms raised aloft in celebration.
Seconds before he finally finished his protest, Horner shouted: "I've proved my point. I've got a 12 inch pizza and a can of coke.
"I've done what I wanted. I've had a mad one."

Kissing now the new leading cause of head, neck cancers ..WTF

What manner of trouble is this now??!! some of us like to kiss for federal Government, now they want us to reduce or stop. Hian! Below is a report on how "The French kiss" is a health risk.

Kissing has overtaken smoking and drinking as the leading risk factor for developing head and neck cancers.

The  French kiss can pass on human papilloma virus (HPV). Head of Maxillofacial and Head and neck Surgery at the Royal Darwin Hospital, Dr Mahiban Thomas, said the virus was responsible for 70% of head and neck cancer cases.

Dr Thomas told Daily Mail Australia if you became infected by HPV in the oropharynx, your risk of developing head and neck cancer was 250 times higher than that of someone without the virus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said studies suggest Oral HPV could be passed on during oral sex or open-mouthed or ‘French’ kissing, and about 7% of people have oral HPV, but only 1% of people have the type of oral HPV that is found in oropharyngeal cancers.

Dr Thomas said recent studies suggested even engaging in ‘petting’ without sexual interaction could transfer HPV.

Buhari is not APC leader, He is a "Mere Product of the Party" says Lai Mohammed

This statement came as a shock to me, because it means "a lot" underneath, is a product of a factory not controlled by it's producer?
National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has dropped a disturbing statement over President Buhari and the leadership of APC .

According to him, President Buhari is not the Leader of the party(APC). He went ahead to describe Buhari as “mere Product of the party”.
Mohammed Ali said this amongst others when he was speaking to Channels Television.

When asked if the President is the Leader of the Party. He said:

” The Chairman of the party is Chief John Oyegun, the President of the country is by virtue of being the President of the whole of the country.

“We have many Leaders in the party and i don’t want to be boxed whether the President is the Leader of the Party”

“The President is a Product of the party”..

ISIS accepts Boko Haram's plea of allegiance

According to AFP, ISIS has now accepted the allegiance of Boko Haram. See report below...
The Islamic State group has welcomed a pledge of allegiance to it made by the Nigerian jihadist organisation Boko Haram, according to an audiotape Thursday purportedly from its spokesman.
"We announce to you to the good news of the expansion of the caliphate to West Africa because the caliph... has accepted the allegiance of our brothers of the Sunni group for preaching and the jihad," IS spokesman Mohammed al-Adnani said in the message, using the Arabic name for Boko Haram.
Itself a radical Sunni Muslim movement, IS has seized large swathes of Iraq and Syria and declared an Islamic "caliphate" there, and has also drawn expressions of allegiance from jihadists in Egypt and Libya.

On Saturday, an audiotape attributed to Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said "we announce our allegiance to the Caliph of the Muslims, Ibrahim ibn Awad ibn Ibrahim al-Husseini al-Qurashi," referring to IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Shekau has previously mentioned Baghdadi in video messages yet stopped short of pledging formal allegiance.
But there have been increasing signs that the Nigerian militants, whose six-year insurgency has claimed more than 13,000 lives and left 1.5 million people homeless, have been seeking a closer tie-up.
IS spokesman Adnani urged Muslims to join militants in West Africa and insisted that the caliphate was growing.
"Our caliphate is resisting and it is advancing in the right direction. We are fighting the Crusaders and the rafidah (Shiites) and day by day the Islamic State is becoming strong," he said.
He insisted that the jihadist group is "sure of its victory" regardless of the challenges it is facing.
For months, IS has been targeted with air strikes from a coalition led by the United States and suffered territorial setbacks in Syria and Iraq.
And Iraqi government forces have closed on the city of Tikrit this week in a bid to retake it from the group

Buhari’s Supporters Stone Jonathan’s Campaign Train in Bauchi

Security personnel comprising soldiers and anti-riot policemen Thursday averted what was potentially an ugly situation as hundreds of  supporters  of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), mostly youths, pelted stones and pure water sachets at the motorcade of President Goodluck Jonathan in Bauchi.
There was palpable tension as the president’s convoy heading to the Bauchi Emir’s palace drove past the Nasarawa area road where some supporters of General Buhari brandishing brooms, the APC’s symbol, welcomed the president with chants of “sai Buhari” even as some could be heard calling President Jonathan “arna,” (in Hausa meaning an unbeliever).
With the president in the motorcade were Vice President Namadi Sambo, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State, ministers, other top chieftains of the PDP leadership, among others.
Also, along Ran road, some irate youths in their numbers chanting “Sai Buhari” disrupted business activities as shop owners in the area had to hurriedly lock their business premises for fear of being attacked.
At venue of the colourful occasion held at Ibrahim Babangida's Square, Bauchi, the youths who had, before the arrival of President Goodluck Jonathan and his entourage, chanted solidarity songs for the President and the PDP, as they marched round the venue with their drums and placards with the President’s picture, turned wild and began pelting dignitaries at the stand.
Security operatives had a tough time dispersing the political thugs who came out in their numbers. The youths destroyed some of the canopies erected and plastic chairs.

President Goodluck Jonathan has accused the opposition party of instigating the electorate in the country against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government.
He challenged the party to state its achievements rather than looking for cheap popularity.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters at the flagg-off of the PDP presidential campaign rally held at Ibrahim Babangida Square, Bauchi, President Jonathan  vowed that no retrogressive forces could push the party behind in its effort to develop Northern Nigeria.

Nigerian Army release statement - Claiming they don't have Buhari's Certificate

The Nigerian Army says it does not have in its possession the original or copies of the credentials of the presidential candidate of the APC, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. The position of the army was made known at a press conference in Abuja today Jan. 20th. The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig, Gen O. Laleye addressed news men. What he said below...

Gentlemen of the Press, I am pleased to welcome everyone back from the Christmas and the 2015 New Year festivities. On behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, I wish you all a happy and more fulfilling 2015. Since our last media briefing on 31 December, 2014, some issues relating to the Nigerian Army have occurred and this briefing is holding specifically to address them.
I will begin with the Major General Muhammadu Buhari certificate controversy.
Gentlemen, let me state clearly that the Nigerian Army holds the retired senior officer in very high esteem and respect and would not be a party to any controversy surrounding his eligibility for any political office. Suffice to state that Major General Buhari rose steadily to the enviable rank of Major General before becoming the Head of State of our dear country in December 1983.

The media hype on retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari’s credentials as well as the numerous requests made by individuals and corporate bodies to the Nigerian Army on this issue have necessitated that we provide the facts as contained in the retired senior officer’s service record.

Records available indicate that Major General M Buhari applied to join the military as a Form Six student of the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina on 18 Oct 61. His application was duly endorsed by the Principal of the school, who also wrote a report on him and recommended him to be suitable for military commission. It is a practice in the NA that before candidates are shortlisted for commissioning into the officers’ cadre of the Service, the Selection Board verifies the original copies of credentials that are presented.

However, there is no available record to show that this process was followed in the 1960s.

Nevertheless, the entry made on the NA Form 199A at the point of documentation after commission as an officer indicated that the former Head of State obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1961 with credits in relevant subjects: English Language, Geography, History, Health Science, Hausa and a pass in English Literature. Neither the original copy, Certified True Copy (CTC) nor statement of result of Major General M Buhari's WASC result is in his personal file.

I hope this explanation will put to rest the raging controversy surrounding the secondary school credentials of Major General Mohammed Buhari as it affects the Nigerian Army.

I will also seize this opportunity to make some observations on the recent CNN report titled 'The Battle Against Boko Haram', which was aired a few days ago. I believe we all hold the CNN in high esteem. However, CNN’s report on issues concerning kitting, equipment, medical treatment and corruption in the Nigerian Army is perhaps the best example of a media house’s show of bias, ignorance, poor journalism, unprofessionalism and handiwork of a sponsored documentary. Let me start with kitting. It would interest you to know that there is no Army in the world where personnel do not purchase additional uniforms and kits to augment those officially issued to them. Accordingly, the Nigerian Army without fail issues uniforms and kits to its personnel periodically.

Like other armies, the NA has over the years, established ordnance shops in all its barracks and cantonments where uniforms and kits are sold at subsidized prices to its personnel from allowances already provided in their pay slips. Similarly, you will agree with me that the NA has a very functional health care delivery system in the country. There is no barrack or cantonment that does not have at least one Medical Inspection Room, Medical Reception Station or Medical Hospital.

The NA fully subscribes to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and this is functional in all its health facilities. Specifically, personnel in the North East have the best medical treatment in that the various health facilities in all the barracks and cantonments are well equipped. Notwithstanding this, personnel with extensive injuries are evacuated to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Kaduna (44 NARHK), while others are promptly flown abroad for medical treatment. Therefore, issue of a soldier of the NA paying for treatment and drugs covered by the NHIS is absurd. The Nigerian Army’s undoubted operational gains in the North East of recent, have rubbished the claim of Boko Haram out-gunning the NA.

The CNN would do well to beam its searchlight on the atrocities of Boko Haram terrorists against innocent and defenseless Nigerians rather than the NA. Equally, the NA in the past had requested severally that any evidence of corruption in the NA should be reported to the appropriate authority. Till date, no such evidence has been forwarded but rather all we see and hear are sweeping statement of the purported corruption in the NA. In the case of Nick Robertson, his leading questions and introduction of the word ‘corruption’ to the unknown person purported to be a soldier of the NA was most unprofessional and merely justifies a paid exercise. The CNN in the past have interviewed authorised personnel of other countries’ armies and not unauthorized hooded criminals to speak to the media.

The CNN knows very well how to contact the relevant offices to clarify issues concerning the NA but chooses rather to conduct a clandestine interview in a kiosk with a faceless person and a masked individual who obviously know nothing about the NA.

Finally, the Nigerian Army wishes to state that it will remain focused on its mission to rid Nigeria of terrorism and insurgency. To that end, it has commenced the implementation of the extensive operational, administrative and logistical decisions reached during 2014 COAS Annual Conference. In no distant future, law abiding Nigerians will begin to see very positive results in terms of security, particularly in the North East and our dear nation generally. Before I depart, I once again seize this opportunity to reiterate the NA’s unalloyed loyalty and subordination to civil authority as presided over by His Excellency, President and Commander – in – Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR.

The Nigerian Army also wishes to emphasize its adherence to the principles and respect of human rights in the discharge of its constitutional duties. It further calls on everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspected breach of the peace to security agencies.
Thank you and God Bless.

IBB Endorses Buhari, Says Retired Generals Will Back Him

In an apparent endorsement of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, who he overthrew in a bloodless coup 30 years ago, former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has stated that retired generals will support Buhari’s bid for the presidency.
Despite Babangida’s seeming endorsement, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday insisted that the APC presidential candidate’s failure to present his secondary school certificate in order to put paid to questions over his eligibility to contest next month’s election, was indicative that he was not even qualified to have been made a commissioned officer of the Nigerian Army.
Babangida, who made this known on Monday in Minna, Niger State, when Buhari paid him a visit, said: “They will support their own.”
Babangida said he was proud of the persistence and perseverance of Buhari in seeking to offer himself for service at the highest level in the country’s young democracy.
“You have beaten some of us in proving Gen. Douglas Macarthur’s theory that old soldiers never die but fade away gradually. But you have refused to fade away,” he added.
He went on to commended APC for honouring the military by nominating Buhari, stating: “I wish to congratulate members of the party for the honour of nominating my colleague, General Muhammadu Buhari, as your presidential candidate for the 2015 election.”

Babangida also accused the media of misrepresenting his relationship with Buhari, adding that it was far from what had been reported.
“I want to commend APC for choosing our colleague as its standard-bearer. All of us will support you (Buhari) in this course to salvage this country,” IBB stated.
Meanwhile, the PDP has continued to question Buhari’s eligibility to contest next month’s presidential election and went as far as questioning his military career.
In a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, the party said: “It is disingenuous for Buhari to say that he contested previous elections and that the issue of his qualifications did not arise.
“Had INEC not complied with the Electoral Act this year, which requires that it pastes the academic credentials of all the presidential candidates, Nigerians would have remained ignorant of the fact that Buhari has probably been submitting affidavits for past elections.”

DHQ confirms 14 soldiers dead,30 wounded during clash with Boko Haram in Baga

The Nigerian army has confirmed 14 soldiers were killed with 30 wounded during an operation to reclaim Baga from Boko Haram.. Tough they haven't confirmed the number of civilians killed by the insurgents, Amnesty international claims over 2000 died in Boko Harams's deadliest attack since its inception.
A statement from the Defence Head quarters reads

“A total of 14 soldiers were killed in action during the attack, while over 30 who were wounded are now receiving medical attention. Most of those declared missing in action have also rejoined their unit in the ongoing reorganisation for further operations.

“Although several of the terrorists died in the course of the attack and efforts at repelling the assailants, the actual figure of civilian casualties is yet to be creditably determined as is being propagated in certain quarters.
“The Nigerian military has not given up on Baga and other localities where terrorists’ activities are now prevalent. Appropriate plans, men and resources are presently being mobilised to address the situation.
“The Nigerian component of the Multinational Joint Task Force which retreated from its Baga Headquarters last weekend and more of the troops are regrouping for necessary debriefing and briefing for subsequent missions.
“It is necessary to reassure Nigerians that the Nigerian Armed Forces and security agencies are capable of flushing out the terrorists from Baga and all parts of the nation’s territory where their activities are prevalent. No portion of Nigeria’s territory has been or will be conceded to terrorists.

SEC Announces Exit of Oteh as Director-General

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Sunday announced the exit of Ms. Arunma Oteh as the commission’s Director-General.
The commission made the disclosure in a statement issued by its management and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
It said Oteh would be remembered for her passion, purpose, articulation and implementation of reform measures driven by the vision to transform the Nigerian capital market into world class.
“She was in a hurry to see Nigeria achieve a world class capital market that will drive development and make Nigeria one of the most attractive investment destination,” it said.
Some of her accomplishments, according to the statement, included restoration of investor confidence through strong enforcement actions and improvement of rules and regulations and investor’s education.
“Under her leadership, the SEC also championed reforms at the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) that witnessed a more robust output and delivery in its operator/oversight role,” the statement said.
The initiative to revamp NSE listing rules, it said, led to landmark transactions in dual listing of SEPLAT Petroleum on the NSE and the London Stock Exchange in April 2014, as well as the development of an alternative securities market.
