A NEW era of digital broadcasting will be reached on Friday with the opening of the continent’s first radio television.
South African media company, Planet Image Productions will launch the service, Planet Radio TV (PRTV), which will be viewed on satellite TV. Armed with a revelutionary state of the art studio, PRTV is set to thrill not only Africa but also the rest of the world.
Officials said PRTV is the platform where Africans from around the globe meet and enjoy African stories, music, fashion, innovations and culture.
Wale Akinlabi, CEO of Planet Image, said his organisation was thrilled to be launching PRTV and Good Morning Africa Studios, the Johannesburg based firm will broadcasting from it's state-of-the-art studio which has been set up in Randburg.

"Our new studios reflect our growth as a company and fit in perfectly with the long-awaited launch of the PRTV channel to be seen very soon on satellite TV.
"We consider this to be a medium that will deliver more pan-African music and feature quality programming. Our listeners requested a transition of the PRTV concept from online radio to television and we are happy to have delivered with an opportunity that will cater to their musical tastes and lifestyle,” said Akinlabi.
The new PRTV channel will broadcast 80 percent African music and lifestyle and 20 percent international music targeting 13 to 35-year-old viewers.
PRTV will focus on all aspects of music from Africa, including modern popular music.
The channel is focused on portraying the importance of culture, music and dance traditions from across the continent.
“Good Morning Africa”, an interactive show designed to inform, educate, entertain and update viewers on the latest events happening across the world through the eyes of the African continent, is the station’s flagship programme.
The channel was first launched in June 2011 and was solely available as an online radio station until now.
