Bomb blast hits police HQ in Borno, kills several

A bomb blast at the entrance of the police headquarters in Maiduguri Borno state killed many people on Friday, mostly police, witnesses and security officials said.
"Many people, mostly members of the police which include men and women were killed in the explosion," said eyewitness Ali Alhaji in the city of Maiduguri.

A police officer at the scene, who could not be named, said five police vans had been loaded with the dead.

Eyewitnesses said a suspected suicide bomber drove a bomb-laden car into the headquarters.

The car exploded at the gate of the Borno State police command on Damaturu road, directly opposite Government Secondary school in Maiduguri.
