Rose woke up that Monday morning, feeling quite
horrible. She actually wondered for a few seconds where exactly she was.
She knew she had been at the party last night and had more than enough
of the cocktail which was passed around so liberally. She had been
tipsy, actually, very drunk when Jide offered her a ride home. Jide of
course was a colleague who had in the past made careless passes at her.
Rose could not remember why and how she accepted but she knew she had
groggily entered Jide’s car and had actually accepted to sleep in his
house. Now as if in a haze, she remembered the whole show. Yes, she had
made love with Jide. How horrid!
Rose has herself to blame actually because she
couldn’t even remember if they had used any form of protection. Besides
the risk of STD is the very present reality that she could become
pregnant for a man she barely knew. There is also the nagging reality
that she would be the office gossip for a long time. How horrible!
DO WE BLAME ROSE OF THE ALCOHOL?
Alcohol has a “dis-inhibiting” effect, which can
make people “loosen up” and feel more comfortable initiating or engaging
in sex.
Alcohol
may make you feel more socially confident and in small quantities may
facilitate more socializing and sexual communication.
In small amounts alcohol has been reported to have a positive impact on sexual desire and arousal.
While
in moderate amounts alcohol can have an impact on engaging in risky
sexual behavior, although this impact is not fully understood.
Knowing these little facts will help you stay away
from too much alcohol and high risk behaviour. Next time you are at a
party, don’t drink more than 2glasses of wine. Do not accept rides from
males when you are drunk…if possible always attend parties with your
girlfriends.
