United States President Barack Obama has paid tribute to the first man to ever walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong, who died on Saturday at the age of 82.
The President tweeted, “Neil Armstrong was a hero not just of his time, but of all time”.
The death was announced by a family statement, which said that he had died from complications after surgery to relieve four blocked coronary arteries.
Armstrong was praised by friends and colleagues, describing him as a “modest, private man who never sought the limelight”.
The head of NASA, Charles Bolden said, “As long as there are history books, Neil Armstong will be included in them, remembered for taking humankind’s first small step in a world beyond our own.”
